WHO WE ARE

The Hora Prima Foundation

Hora prima foundation was set up because of our strong believe in the need to rise, act, and to help alleviate the poverty and deprivation in rural Ghana and West Africa.

With this thought, we focused on improving Human Development as our primary goal in achieving true freedom and development especially in rural Ghana and West Africa.
With this as our goal, we settled on four thematic areas of concern. These include Women and Children, Education, Technological Assistance and Rural Development. What we intend to achieve is to carve a model for real economic development at the micro level especially in rural Ghana that can be replicated within the sub region of West Africa.

Our symbol in Ghanaian Akan language is AKOMA NTOASO literally means Agreement or extension of the Heart. Metaphorically, it depicts four hearts linked together to signify harmony, extension of love and care.
It means:

  • It takes one’s life to sustain another’s
  • We need to work together in harmony to achieve progress
  • Someone’s life depends on you
  • Without your help, someone life might end

The same symbol is “Ujima” in Kwanza (Swahili language) which means:

  • To build and maintain our community together
  • To make our brother’s and sister’s problems, our problems and to solve them together
  • Progress is impossible and liberation unthinkable without collective effort
  • A commitment to active and informed togetherness on matters of common interest
The symbol is a reminder of our commitment to work with others to achieve the mission and vision of the foundation.
Hora Prima means “first hour”. It a challenge thrown to you to help – what would you do to help, when will you do it, imagine if you do it now- in the first hour.
